AtlaS.WH is a world example in the defense of heritage
The international AtlaS.WH project, which is led by Porto, was selected by the European Union as one of the best examples of good practices in World Heritage defence. The selection is compiled in an e-book that has just been presented in Brussels and is now available online.

‘AtlaS.WH - Heritage in the Atlantic Area: Sustainability of the World Heritage Urban Sites’ is a partnership between five cities with sites inscribed in the World Heritage list: Historic Centre of Porto, Luiz I Bridge and Monastery of Serra do Pilar; Historic City of Santiago de Compostela; Bordeaux, Le Port de la Lune; Centro Storico di Firenze; The Old and New Towns of Edinburgh.

Led by Porto, this partnership addresses common challenges related to the protection of the identity and value of World Heritage urban centres in order to stimulate heritage-oriented cultural and economic development and to produce management and sustainability plans for each site.

INTERACT, an organization that supports INTERREG encouraging cooperation between the different countries of the European Union, has developed an e-book entitled ‘Connecting Cultures, Connected Citizens’, which is based on the collection of best practices through the identification of inspiring projects within the scope of cultural heritage - such as the AtlaS.WH - in the context of the celebration of the European Year of Cultural Heritage in 2018.

‘Connecting Cultures, Connected Citizens’ was publicly presented during the European Week of Regions and Cities, held this week in Brussels, and can now be accessed online.
